Periods can be exceedingly painful for some girls, thanks to the terrible cramps that it accompanies. The pain is primarily due to hormones called prostaglandins, causing the muscles to contract in the abdomen and lower back. While some level of pain is normal, if it lasts for more than two days and interferes with daily activities, it should not be ignored, as these problems may worsen over time. Consulting a doctor is advisable in such cases. Here are some natural remedies to alleviate period pain.

1. Saffron

Often referred to as the sunshine spice, saffron can help reduce pain and improve mood by increasing serotonin levels, which tend to decrease before and during periods. It is also known to alleviate headaches and digestive issues.

2. Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate is a delicious option during periods. It contains various vitamins, antioxidants (phenols and flavonoids), minerals (potassium, calcium, and iron), small amounts of omega-3 and 6 fatty acids, and ample magnesium. These components can help reduce period pain. Research indicates that about 90% of women consume chocolate during their periods.

3. Black Raisins

Black raisins contain arginine, an amino acid believed to be beneficial in treating period pain. They also provide selenium, antioxidants, and flavonoids that can help with sexual dysfunction. Raisins are rich in nutrients and can aid in relieving period pain, as well as addressing issues related to blood deficiency and irregular periods. To benefit from black raisins, consider consuming soaked raisins in the morning.
