Mahavir Jayanti 2023: Mahavir Jayanti is the name given on the anniversary of Mahavir’s birth. He was a 24th-generation Jain guru who was born in Kundalagrama, Bihar. According to the Hindu calendar, the holiday is celebrated on the 13th day of the Chaitra month. His parents were King Siddhartha and Queen Trishala.
When Mahavir was thirty years old, he finally handed away his crown and everything he had. He embarked on a solitary spiritual journey. During his 12-year exile, he lived in asceticism and solitude away from all material luxuries. Before being enlightened, he began practising meditation and maintaining a simple life. The day is also known as Vardhamana, which incorporates core Jainist principles.
Mahavir Jayanti 2023: History
Mahavir was born in Kundalagrama, a town in the Vaishali district of Bihar. He tossed away everything he owned, including his crown.
He started looking for a spiritual way when he was thirty. Sage Vardhamana was an ascetic who spent roughly 12 years in exile abstaining from all delights of this world and practising meditation. Sage Vardhamana was his name once he gained “Kevala Jnana,” or omniscience, during this period. He was for nonviolence (ahimsa).
He promoted the Brahmacharya virtues of chastity, truth, non-stealing, and aparigraha (non-attachment). His lessons were assembled by Indrabhuti Gautama and Mahavir’s top students. He was given this moniker because of his exceptional ability to regulate his senses. He gained Nirvana (enlightenment), the pursuit of truth, and spiritual freedom at the age of 72.

Mahavir Jayanti 2023: Who came to first Mahavira or Buddha?
The Jain tradition is unwavering in its belief that Mahavira’s nirvana in 527 BCE marked the start of the Vira Nirvana Samvat period. Mahavira was dated to the sixth century BCE by the Jain scholar Hemachandracharya in the 12th century.
The Buddha was younger than Mahavira and “may have gained nirvana a few years later,” by Jain tradition, which holds that the conventional date of 527 BCE is correct. Jains make pilgrimages to Pavapuri, where he attained nirvana, which is located in modern-day Bihar.
