Ingredients
- For the Pasta: 2 cups elbow macaroni or any short pasta
- 6 cups water (for boiling)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- For the Cheese Sauce: 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk (for extra creaminess)
- 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese mix)
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- A pinch of paprika or cayenne pepper (optional for a little kick)
Step By Step Guide
Cook The Pasta:
In a large saucepan, add salt and boil water. Add the macaroni and allow it to cook until it is soft and tender.
Prepare the Sauce:
Then in the same pot sauté butter to melt and stir in the flour and whisk for 1-2 minutes for a paste type consistency. Gradually pour the milk in, whisk continuously to ensure the mixture doesn't form any lumps. Cook for about 3- 4 minutes until it starts to thicken.
Add The Cheese:
Lower the heat to medium-low. Sprinkle the shredded cheese in and mix by the handful until the cheese melts. Add garlic powder, paprika, salt and pepper.
Combine Pasta And Sauce:
Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until the pasta is evenly coated.
Bake And Serve
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Pour the mac and cheese into a baking tray, and top with more cheese then bake for 10 minutes to get a bubbly and golden brown. Garnish with a sprinkle of paprika or fresh parsley and Serve hot.
