Shakshuka is supposed to have originated in the Maghreb or North Africa. It gained famous because it was a cheap yet delicious supper option that could be quickly cooked at home. It afterwards spread to Israel, Libya, Morocco, and Turkey. The dish has also moved to Spain, where it is frequently served with Spanish sausage Chorizo.

How To Make Desi Egg Shakshuka
- Eggs – 4/6
- Tomatoes – 4, chopped
- Onions – 2, chopped
- Green chillies – 2
- Tomato Ketchup – 1Tbsp
- Ginger Garlic Paste – 1tsp
- Red chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
- Tomato Puree- 100 gms
- Garam Masala – a pinch (optional)
- Salt to taste
- Ketchup – 1tbsp
- Oil
Method
Sauté onion in hot oil till transparent, then add ginger garlic paste and green chilies. Then season with salt and tomatoes. Let the tomatoes to simmer for around 4-5 minutes. To this, add red chilli powder and garam masala.
Cook for another 5 minutes with the lid on, adding 2 tbsp water.
Add 1/2 cup tomato purée to this. Cook for another 5-7 minutes with the lid on.
It’s time to start breaking in the eggs! Make a place for the eggs in the skillet using the spatula, and break open the eggs as demonstrated in the video. Cook for another 5-8 minutes on low heat with the lid on. And it’s finished! Serve with your preferred bread.
