1. History of Kashi Vishwanath

One of the 12 Jyotirlingas, this temple of Lord Shiva receives the most visitors in Varanasi. It has been destroyed and rebuilt at least five times during its existence. It underwent its last renovation in 1780 under Rani Ahilya Bai Holkar. The Gyanvapi Mosque and the temple are now housed within the same walls. Aurangzeb built the latter after he destroyed the former during the Mughal invasion.

2. Number of Ghats

Dashashwamedh Ghat, Manikarnika Ghat, Chet Singh Ghat, Scindia Ghat, and Assi Ghat are some of the most well-known ghats in the city. In total, there are more than 80 ghats. Both ceremonial and household uses are made of these ghats. Only cremations are allowed in a couple of the ghats.

3. Manikarnika Ghat

It is stated that the pathways near the Manikarnika Ghat are where one may find the most authentic and locally produced silk and trinkets. The most unique aspect of this Ghat is probably the fact that cremations can be performed at any time. Since it is one of the most revered ghats for cremation and a place where the deceased can reach salvation, this place never expires.

4. Harmony Bookshop

So, tell me why a bookstore would slash this list. Check for a friendly owner. Done. Exotic books. Check for a varied collection. The seductive aroma of both new and old books is checked! It is a favourite with both tourists and locals and is one of the most well-known bookshops in the city.

5. Banaras Hindu University

Alright, we all know that the largest university in Asia is the Banaras Hindu University. The Bharat Kala Bhavan, a museum with no fewer than one lakh artefacts and pieces on display, is also located there. There are more than 15 million books in the BHU libraries, which is another amazing fact.

6. Bhang Lassi

Bhang is well-known in Varanasi (cannabis). This lassi is becoming more and more well-liked in the city, in addition to the well-known Thandai, bhang pakoras, and ladoos. It is both legal and a delicacy, at least in Varanasi.

7. Banarasi Paan

They claim that everything is folded. The Banarasi Paan can be found all over India. Yet, one can only find genuine flavour in Varanasi, the city of origin.

8. Krishnamurti Study Centre and Retreat

The region is one of Varanasi’s most tranquil locations and a philosopher’s paradise. It has a collection of Jiddu Krishnamurti’s writings, a library, a place for solitude, a room for debate, and several cottages for a tranquil stay.

9. Kachori Gali

Another name for Vishwanath Gali is the Kachori Gali. Delicious, hot, fried kachoris served with a selection of chutneys. Enough already!

10. Subah-e-Banaras

The Subah-e-Banaras, as opposed to the evening Ganga Aarti and the annual Dhrupad Mela, is the ideal way to begin the day in Varanasi (in the picture). Every morning at Assi Ghat, Vedic chantings and music fill the air. The duration is roughly two hours.
