Basant Panchami: Saraswati Puja is celebrated every year on the fifth day of the month of Magha, which is usually in late January or February. Saraswati is considered as the goddess of knowledge, wisdom, music, art, and science. It is widely celebrated in north India especially in West Bengal and Bihar. This day marks the beginning of the festival of colours Holi.  So delve into colour and wisdom. The charm of Saraswati Puja is doubled as the combination of devotion with patriotism is rarely seen. Basant Panchami, also known as Vasant Panchami, is celebrated on the first day of spring, which falls on the fifth day of Magha. The festival honours Saraswati, the patron goddess of learning who is revered by intellectuals, artists, and students. On this day, people visit temples to worship the goddess and seek her blessings for inventiveness, intelligence, and knowledge. DO’S  on BASANT PANCHAMI

  • Wake up early preferably Brahma muhurta – 3.30 to 5.30 am
  • Put up yellow attire and worship Maa Saraswati on shubh muhurat
  • Offer Maa Saraswati white and yellow flowers as white is the favourite colour of Maa Sharda
  • Offer yellow sweats, Malpuaa, Bunia, Ladoo, Berry, carot as Prasad to Mata
  • Place your books, pens, musical instruments near the idol of Maa Saraswati for blessings
  • Meditate and thank the goddess for everything you have received in life accompanied by the Saraswati mantra
  • Offer water to lord sun
  • Good time for new beginnings
  • Help the needy and feed poor

DON’TS  on Basant Panchmi

  • Alcohol, tobacco or any addictive items should not be consumed today
  • Avoid Non-veg
  • If possible, avoid onion and garlic
  • Avoid eating without shower
  • Avoid cutting trees and plants
