Nearly a decade after its launch in 2014, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has initiated the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag‘ program. This initiative is designed to ensure that each vehicle utilizes only one FASTag for Electronic Toll Collection, preventing the use of multiple FASTags by the same vehicle owner.

The objective of the program is to enhance the efficiency of the Electronic Toll Collection system and prevent inconveniences caused by delays at toll plazas. The NHAI emphasized that sometimes FASTags are intentionally not affixed to the vehicle’s windscreen, leading to unnecessary delays and inconvenience for other highway users.

The NHAI highlighted the success of FASTag in revolutionizing the Electronic Toll Collection system, with a penetration rate of around 98 percent and over 8 crore users. As part of the initiative, all vehicle owners are now required to update the Know Your Customer (KYC) details associated with their FASTags. Failure to update this information by January 31 will result in the deactivation of the FASTag, even if it has a sufficient balance.
