Weather update: With likely setting in of northeasterly winds in the lower tropospheric l level over bay of Bengal and south peninsular India; the north east monsoon rains are likely to coomence over south east peninsular india from October 29 (Friday).

According to Indian Metrological Department (IMD), heavy rainfall is expected at few places of Arunachal Pradesh and at isolated places of Assam, Meghalaya, Tamil Nadu, Andaman and Nicobar on October 31, November 1. Thunderstorm can also occur at few parts of the states. Dry Weather is likely to prevail over rest of the country for next 5 days.

However, isolated rainfall is predicted over northeastern states and sub-Himalayan west Bengal and  Sikkim during next 24 hours. A cyclonic circulation is over west Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas.

La Nina conditions

It is to inform that atmospheric and Oceanic indicators are aligned in tandem to support, established La Nina conditions. La Nina is expected to persist into the Northern Hemisphere winter of 2022-23, as per skymet weather report. Transition to ENSO neutral is likely by Feb-Mar 2023. Relative warming of the West Pacific with respect to the Eastern Pacific due to La Nina has increased the stormy activity in the South China Sea. Remnant of these storms is also straying into the Indian waters of the Bay of Bengal, kicking up cyclogenesis.

Weather Activity in the last 24 hours:

During the last 24 hours, light to moderate rain occurred over parts of Kerala, Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Light rain with one or two moderate spells occurred at a few places over Gangetic West Bengal, East Bihar, parts of Jharkhand and north coast of Odisha.

Weather remained dry over rest of the country.

Air pollution over Delhi and NCR remained in very poor category.

Weather Activity:

During the next 24 hours, northwesterly winds are expected to continue over most parts of Northwest and Central India.

Weather of most parts of the country is expected to remain dry.

Light rain is expected to occur over parts of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.

Light rain with one or two moderate spells is possible over Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Isolated light rain may occur over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
