Waterlogging Hits Mumbai Amid Pre-Monsoon Rain, Social Media Buzzes

Saturday night witnessed heavy rainfall across numerous parts of Mumbai, leading to substantial waterlogging in various areas. This pre-monsoon downpour, causing inconvenience to residents due to traffic disruptions and water accumulation, is expected to be followed by intense monsoon showers within the next 48 hours.

Saturday night saw heavy rainfall across several parts of Mumbai, resulting in significant waterlogging in many areas.

The pre-monsoon rainstorm, which caused inconvenience to residents due to waterlogging and traffic , is anticipated to be succeeded by intense monsoon showers within the next 48 hours.

The official onset of the monsoon in Mumbai is still pending. Nonetheless, the city experienced substantial rainfall beginning Saturday night. Similarly, several other cities in Maharashtra, such as Pune, encountered intense showers and instances of waterlogging on Saturday due to the rainfall.

Netizens took to social media to express injustice about traffic and waterlogging in Mumbai following the onset of rainfall. They posted images and videos portraying flooded streets and lengthy traffic delays across various areas of the city.

Social media user @rushikesh_agre_ shared visuals of Dahisar in Mumbai after an hour of rainfall, noting that the area received a significant 40 mm of rain within that timeframe, resulting in waterlogged roads. They wished Mumbaikars a happy Sunday alongside the update.

Another individual on social media recounted an event on Ghodbunder Road, where a tree collapse caused significant traffic jam in the vicinity.

According to @kunal_artistic’s post, ‘Heavy traffic ensued on Ghodbunder road towards Thane due to rainfall and a fallen tree. Commuters have been stuck in traffic since 3 am. It’s advisable to avoid heading towards Thane and opt for Powai instead. I’ve communicated with the police personnel on duty.’

As the rainy season commenced in the city, numerous social media users celebrated, while some pointed out the inadequate sewage system, resulting in waterlogging post an overnight rainfall. One social media user voiced dissatisfaction, commenting, ‘Great job @mybmc!’

Famous author Kiran Manral expressed concern about the current state of Mumbai’s roads amidst the arrival of monsoon, mentioning the extensive digging and anticipating challenges ahead.

In Mumbai, meteorologists from the Indian Meteorological Department predict favorable weather conditions leading to the timely onset of monsoon. Heavy rainfall is expected in the city over the next few days, with a yellow warning issued for potential thunderstorms and gusty winds at speeds of 50-60 kmph.

While Mumbai experiences heavy rainfall due to pre-monsoon conditions, senior scientists from IMD Mumbai anticipate the monsoon’s arrival within the next 48 hours. The official timeframe for the monsoon’s arrival in Mumbai falls between June 10 and June 15, according to reports by media.
