Delhi:  The AQI of Delhi has deteriorated post-Diwali once again and firecrackers are being blamed for the same. Notably, this is the best Diwali AQI that the national capital has seen in the last eight years but firecrackers have fired up a verbal spat among the political leaders in Delhi.

Kapil Mishra, Vice-President of BJP (Delhi) felt proud of Delhi. “Proud of You Delhi These are voices of resistance, voices of freedom and democracy People are bravely defying unscientific, illogical, dictatorial ban”, he posted on Twitter on Diwali night.

However, raising concerns over deteriorating air quality in the capital, TMC MP Saket Gokhale accused BJP MPs of violating rules, being unconcerned about the environment, and defying the Supreme Court order of a complete ban on firecrackers in Delhi-NCR.

In his Twitter (X) post, Gokhale writes that he has asked Delhi Police’s HQ to furnish details of how many cases of firecracker use were registered last night & what action has been taken.

Amid this chaos, the environment minister of Delhi, Gopal Rai called for a review meeting at 12:00 pm on Monday to discuss the air quality of Delhi-NCR. He too has blamed bursting firecrackers for contributing to the smog that has engulfed Delhi.

Now, BJP leader Kapil Mishra has posted a video on Twitter defending firecrackers in the name of festive vibes, celebrations, and rituals.

He said if firecrackers were causing pollution then Gaza would have been the most polluted state these days but its AQI is 40. Even Ukraine and Syria aren’t polluted. Accusing Gopal Rai of going against a religion-based festival and overseeing pollution caused by stubble burning, the BJP leader has asked him to go by the reports and scientific data.
