Vishnu Deo Sai Gets Two Deputy, Raman Singh To Be New Speaker Of Chhattisgarh Assembly

Hours after Vishnu Deo Sai was announced as the Chief Minister of Chattisgarh, the state got two Deputy Chief Ministers, named Vijay Sharma and Arun Sao. Raman Singh, who served as the CM three times in a row between 2003 to 2018 will serve as the speaker of the Chhattisgarh Assembly.

After a week of speculation, the BJP named Vishnu Deo Sai, a tribal leader, as the new Chhattisgarh Chief Minister. In last month’s assembly polls, the BJP won 54 of the 90 seats. The Congress ended with 35 seats, way short of the 68 seats it won in 2018.

After the election results were announced on December 3, there was speculation about who would be the CM face for the BJP in Chattisgarh. Sai won the recently concluded assembly polls from Kunkuri in North Chattisgarh, During his rally in Kunkuri, Amit Shah also urged voters to elect Sai.

In last month’s assembly polls, the BJP trounced the Congress, winning 54 of the 90 seats. The Congress ended with just 35 seats, way short of the 68 seats it won in 2018. The Gondwana Gantantra Party (GGP) managed to win one seat.

While date for the oath-taking ceremony is yet to announced, sources told to media that Vishnu Deo Singh, with eight others, are likely to take the oath on December 12. The new chief minister must take over the office before January 3, 2024, when the tenure of the current Chhattisgarh Assembly ends.
