The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) stated that the allegations of charging customers for having multiple SIMs or numbering resources are entirely untrue and misleading to the public.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), which oversees telecommunication identifiers (TI) resources, requested TRAI’s recommendations on a revised National Numbering Plan on September 29, 2022. This was to ensure effective management and prudent use of numbering resources in the nation.
The Consultation Paper (CP) issued by TRAI regarding the revision of the National Numbering Plan (NNP) aims to evaluate all current factors influencing the allocation and use of telecommunication identifier (TI) resources.

“The telecom regulator has consistently supported minimal regulatory intervention, encouraging forbearance and self-regulation by market forces,” said TRAI.
TRAI firmly rejects and strongly condemns any false speculations that continue to spread misleading information about the current consultation paper.
Furthermore, Telecom Regulator urges all stakeholders and the public to refer to the official press release and consultation paper on its website for accurate information.
