Uttarakhand: A tempo traveller with 23 passengers fell into a deep gorge in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district on Saturday, leaving eight people feared dead and seven others injured, according to news agency PTI.
The injured have been taken to the nearest medical center for treatment. The incident happened near the Alakananda River on the Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief about the accident and said he had ordered the District Magistrate to investigate it.

He wrote on his official handle, “I pray to God to grant peace to the departed souls and give strength to their families to bear this immense pain. I also pray to Baba Kedar for the speedy recovery of the injured.”

As soon as Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami learned about the accident, he got updates from the police and administration. He tweeted expressing his grief over the incident and instructed officials to provide all possible help to the injured. He also ordered an investigation and instructed strict action if the driver’s negligence caused the accident. He urged the families of the victims to stay strong.
According to police sources, villagers and passersby gathered at the scene as soon as they heard about the accident. They started a rescue operation on their own, pulling people from the vehicle and bringing them to the road.
