The victim, Faizal Ansari Roz, used to return home from an Anganwadi centre with a relative of similar age. However, on Thursday, the relative returned home alone. Consequently, the villagers and the family members initiated a search for the minor boy. Faizal’s slippers were discovered near a well, adding to the growing concern.

A grim discovery was made on Thursday evening when Faizal’s lifeless body, with two bricks tied to his neck, was recovered from the well. The step-grandmother tied those bricks around the boy’s neck to ensure that he drowned. The police initiated an investigation, suspecting the involvement of a family member.

As suspicion grew, Faizal’s father found his stepmother, Sarbari Khatun, acting suspiciously and included her name in his police complaint. During intense interrogation, Sarbari Khatun broke down under pressure and pleaded guilty to the crime.

She claimed that her drastic action was driven by the frequent humiliation she suffered at the hands of the victim’s parents, stating her desire to teach them a lesson.
