On Monday, Tamilisai Soundararajan, the Governor of Telangana, tendered her resignation from her position, as confirmed by sources within the governor’s office to ABP Desam. There are rumors suggesting that Soundararajan, the former President of the Tamil Nadu BJP, might run in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Tuticorin against Kanimozhi, similar to the 2019 polls, or from Puducherry. Additionally, she has also stepped down from her role as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, according to a statement from the Raj Bhavan.

At the age of 62, Soundararajan took office as the second Governor of the newly established state of Telangana in November 2019. Later, in February 2021, she was also given the additional role of Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. Following the removal of Kiran Bedi from the position, Soundararajan assumed the responsibilities of Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry alongside her existing duties.
Tamilisai Soundararajan, the daughter of veteran Congress leader Kumari Ananthan, has been affiliated with the BJP for more than two decades prior to her assumption of the Governor’s role.

Coming from the influential Nagar community, Tamilisai experienced a notable defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections against DMK’s Kanimozhi in Thoothukudi. Speculations abound regarding her potential nomination as a BJP candidate in future elections.
Soundararajan contested the Thoothukudi seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha election but was unsuccessful.
