Before the Lok Sabha elections, DMK suffered a significant setback as its sitting MP, A Ganesamoorthy, passed away. He was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2019 representing Erode on a DMK ticket. Frustrated over not receiving a ticket, he attempted suicide on Sunday and was placed on ventilator support on Monday.

After consuming the pesticide, Ganesamoorthy had developed discomfort and vomiting, leading to his admission to a private hospital by his relatives. Following medical examinations, he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and placed on a ventilator, as reported by the police.

He disclosed that his party chose to give the ticket to K. E Prakash, leader of the DMK Youth Wing and close associate of Chief Minister MK Stalin’s son Udhayanidhi Stalin. This decision caused stress for Ganesamoorthy, as per his family. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he won his seat by a margin of 2,10,618 votes, defeating his closest AIADMK rival G. Manimaran.
