The tragic gangrape of a 27-year-old woman has sent shockwaves across Uttar Pradesh’s Bastri district. A 30-year-old man and his wife were found dead, allegedly due to poison consumption. This grim event followed the harrowing gang rape of the wife in their village.
The devastating turn of events unfolded on Thursday when the couple resorted to consuming poison. While the husband tragically lost his life on the same day, his wife battled for survival but succumbed to her injuries in a Gorakhpur hospital on Friday, as reported by Basti SP Gopal Krishana.
Allegations arose from the couple’s relatives, who claimed that the wife had been subjected to a horrendous gang rape by two men inside her home during the intervening night of September 20 and 21, as confirmed by the SP.
Before taking their own lives, the couple recorded a video in which they named the individuals they held responsible, police sources revealed.

Following a complaint lodged by the deceased man’s brother, an FIR was registered against the accused men on Friday, citing charges under Sections 376 D (gang rape) and 306 (abetment to suicide), according to the SP. The accused pair, identified as Adarsh (25) and Triloki (45), have been apprehended, with an ongoing investigation into the matter.
The couple leaves behind three children, including two sons aged eight and six, and a one-year-old daughter. The kids revealed to the officials that when they were getting ready for school, their parents told them that they were going to die because they had consumed poison.
Preliminary investigations have suggested a link between the tragic rape incident and the sale of land owned by the deceased couple.
