Even before the voters of the Surat constituency vote, the BJP candidate contesting on the seat has won unopposed. Elections for this seat are scheduled to take place in the third phase on May 7. After the cancellation of Congress candidate Nilesh Kumbhani’s nomination over discrepancies in their proposers’ signatures and the withdrawal of eight independent candidates, BJP’s Mukesh Dalal sees no hurdles on his way to the parliament. While an official announcement is awaited, locals believe it will be made in a short while.

The last candidate to withdraw his name from contesting was Pyarelal Bharati from the BSP leaving Mukesh Dalal as the lone candidate from the constituency.

Politicians of Gujarat BJP are celebrating it as the first victory of the saffron brigade in the Lok Sabha elections. Gujarat chief minister took to X to congratulate Dalal. He stated it as the beginning of the historic win of the BJP in the Lok Sabha.

Congratulating the Surat candidate, state president of BJP, CR Paatil wrote on X (Twitter) – Surat offered the first lotus (kamal) to Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi.

BJP had earlier objected to the nomination of Congress candidate Nilesh Kumbhani as well as his substitute for the discrepancies in the signature of proposers. The party alleged that the candidates didn’t contact the proposers for their signatures. Following this, the Congress candidates were asked to present their case on Sunday where the RO (Returning Officer) and Surat collector rejected their nominations.
