SC to plea seeking judicial inquiry in Morbi Bridge Collapse

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a plea seeking appointment of judicial commission under the supervision of retired top court judge to probe the Morbi Bridge Collapse incident.

A cable suspension bridge in Morbi town fell on Sunday, sending people into the Machchhu River. Over 100 people are being treated for their injuries after a cable.

At least 134 people, including women and children, were killed. In Kevadia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that rescue activities were in full swing and that there would be no slacking off.

The Prime Minister will visit the incident spot today.

PM Chaired Meeting On Morbi Bridge Collapse Incident

On Monday, PM Modi chaired a high level meeting to review the situation in Morbi at Raj Bhavan, and emphasised on ensuring that the affected get all possible assistance.

PM Modi said, “I express my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident. In this hour of grief, the government is with the bereaved families in every manner. The Gujarat Government has been carrying out relief and rescue operations since the incident. Centre too is extending all help to the State Government.”

The Prime Minister postponed his roadshow in Ahmedabad while on a three-day trip to Gujarat and Rajasthan.
