Ludhiana Gas Leak: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Sunday expressed grief over the gas leak indicent that took place in a factory in Ludhiana earlier this morning, leaving nine people dead.

In a post on Twitter in Punjabi, the Chief Minister wrote, “The incident of gas leak of factory in Giaspura area of Ludhiana is very sad.. Police, government and NDRF teams are present at the spot.. All possible help is being provided.. Rest details soon..”

Apart from those who died, 11 people fell sick who were rushed to hospitals. As soon as the incident was reported, a team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), doctors and fire brigade reached the spot.

“Definitely, it is a gas leak case. The NDRF team is present at the spot to evacuate the people and will conduct the rescue operation. 9 people died in this incident and 11 are sick,” said Swati, SDM Ludhiana West.

“Exact reason will only come when we will go to the incident spot. We are waiting for the NDRF, they are specialised in this,” another officer said.

Police are at the spot and have sealed the area while, the rescuse operation is on.

Ludhiana Gas Leak: Locals tell plight 

Talking to press person, a local named Anjan Kumar informed that a few among those who died were his family members. He said that the gas was too poisnous that three of the dead bodies turned blue.

“This was a poisonous gas leak…At least eight people have died. Three of the bodies have turned blue…It is poisonous. You will not be able to breathe,” said Anjan Kumar.
