New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday inaugurated the new Parliament building amid grand celebration and Opposition’s boycott of the ceremony. The PM unveiled the plaque and installed the sacred ‘Sengol’ in the Lok Sabha chamber.
The Sengol which has been kept right next to the Speaker’s chair was handed over to PM Modi by Adheenams. A puja was performed before installing ‘Sengol.’
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the Sengol that has been kept in the Parliament was the same given to India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on August 14 at his residence.

Lok Sabha Speaker OM Birla attended the puja among several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders.
Earlier, the Opposition parties including Conrgess, Trinamool and others who announced to boycott the ceremony skipped the inauguration of the new parliament building.
