Srinagar: One terrorists is killed in an ongoing encounter operation between militants and security officials in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday evening, police said.

The gunfight broke out at Ahwatoo area of Kulgam when joint teams of forces launched a cordon and a search operation (CASO) following an input about militants’ presence.

“01 terrorist killed. Operation in progress. Further details shall follow,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.

According to Additional Director General of Police, Vijay Kumar, two local terrorists affiliated to proscribed terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) were trapped in the encounter.

He said that both the trapped terrorists are involved in several terror crime cases.

Earlier, Kashmir police tweeted that: “Encounter has started at Ahwatoo area of Kulgam. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow.
