Noida: McDonald's, Theobroma Food Quality Unsafe?

Noida residents raised concerns after reports emerged of customers falling ill following their meals at a McDonald’s outlet in Sector 18 and Theobroma bakery in Sector 104. Promptly, officials from the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department (FDA) sprung into action, initiating an investigation into the matter.

The complaints were formally lodged via the Food Safety Connect portal of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). At McDonald’s, a customer reported feeling unwell after consuming a burger and french fries, while at Theobroma, a woman allegedly fell ill after consuming a stale cake.

Archana Dheeran, Assistant Commissioner (Food) of FDA Gautam Buddh Nagar, confirmed the complaints and detailed the subsequent actions. A team from the FDA swiftly visited the McDonald’s outlet to collect samples, including palm oil, cheese, and mayonnaise, to assess their safety and quality.

Likewise, following the complaint against Theobroma, FDA officials collected samples of the cake for laboratory analysis. Dheeran assured that if any issues were identified in the laboratory reports, appropriate measures would be taken, potentially including legal action against the implicated establishments.

The investigation aims to ascertain the cause of the reported illnesses and ensure the safety of consumers. The timely response by the FDA underscores the importance of maintaining rigorous food safety standards and responding promptly to consumer complaints.

Dheeran emphasized that the FDA is committed to conducting a thorough investigation and awaiting the laboratory results, which are expected within a month. Should the sampled products fail the safety assessment, further actions will be taken accordingly, potentially leading to the registration of a case against the outlets.
