The country is witnessing intense political activity surrounding the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, with senior leaders from various parties engaging in a war of words. Former Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay, the BJP candidate for the Tamluk Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal, made a controversial statement against CM Mamata Banerjee. Trinamool Congress (TMC) has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission regarding this statement.

The TMC has lodged a complaint against Abhijeet Gangopadhyay with the Election Commission. The party has forwarded this letter to the Chief Electoral Officer. They stated that BJP candidate Abhijit Gangopadhyay made derogatory remarks against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Furthermore, they accused the former Justice of violating the Model Code of Conduct and other legal provisions by making such statements.

At an election rally in East Midnapore, BJP leader Abhijit Gangopadhyay addressed the crowd, questioning Mamata Banerjee’s integrity. He alleged that the TMC claimed their candidate from Sandeshkhali, Rekha Patra, was bought for Rs 2,000, insinuating that Banerjee might have a price as well, possibly Rs 10 lakh due to her use of expensive makeup. Gangopadhyay further remarked on Patra’s occupation, suggesting that being a domestic worker made her susceptible to being bought for a small sum. He concluded by criticizing Banerjee’s actions, questioning how one woman could degrade another woman to such an extent.

Trinamool Congress seized the opportunity to criticize the former justice’s controversial statement. TMC leader and minister Chandrima Bhattacharya launched an attack on Abhijit Gangopadhyay, questioning how a civilized and educated individual could resort to such language. She accused him of crossing all limits by employing objectionable words.
