In a surprising moment at an event in Darbhanga, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar tried to touch Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s feet, a gesture caught on video and widely circulated on social media. In the footage, the 73-year-old Nitish Kumar approaches PM Modi, 74, with folded hands, bowing in respect. PM Modi, however, quickly stops him, offering a handshake instead. This marks the third time this year that Nitish Kumar has made such a gesture towards the Prime Minister, with similar instances in June at Parliament’s Central Hall and earlier at a Lok Sabha rally in April.

Nitish Kumar’s Role in BJP’s Recent Election Success
Nitish Kumar’s party, the JD(U), emerged as a crucial ally for the BJP in recent Lok Sabha elections, helping them secure a third consecutive term in government. The BJP, falling short of a majority, relied on partnerships with the JD(U) and Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP to form a stable government.

PM Modi’s Praise for Nitish Kumar’s Transformation of Bihar
At the Darbhanga event, PM Modi laid the foundation for an AIIMS hospital and inaugurated several projects worth around Rs 12,100 crore. He took the opportunity to commend Nitish Kumar’s leadership in transforming Bihar, lifting it from the era of “jungle raj,” a term often associated with past governance under Lalu Prasad Yadav’s RJD. PM Modi highlighted the progress made under Nitish Kumar’s rule, especially in health infrastructure, contrasting it with previous administrations.
“Nitish Kumar has established a model of good governance, pulling the state out of the jungle raj era. No praise is too high for this accomplishment,” said PM Modi, acknowledging Bihar’s development journey.
