Nitish Kumar promises ‘Special Status’ to backward states if Opposition wins in 2024
Patna: State Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Thursday made several huge promises including the one to give special category status to all backward states along with Bihar. He promised to bring the status if any non-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) form central government in 2024.
Said the Bihar Chief Minister: "If we get an opportunity to form the government, we will surely give backward states special status. I am not just talking about Bihar, but also about other states that should get special status."
CM Kumar has been demanding the status of special category for a long time. Today, while assuring people for the betterment of Bihar, he asserted that he see no point why the same cannot be done.
"There is no reason why it cannot be done," he added.
The CM has been demanding the special category status for Bihar since 2007 and it often comes to headlines when the elections are near.
Currently, there are a total number of 11 states having this status - Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir (now a Union Territory), Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura and Uttarakhand.
However, Bihar, Odisha and Jharkhand also want to have the same status due to backwardness and poverty.
Bihar CM who broke up ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) last month had made a separate government with the alliance of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). After which, he has been constantly putting efforts to make sure BJP loose in the next Lok Sabha elections.
He, in fact, visited Delhi few days back to bring Opposition parties together to defeat Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP in next polls.
