The CM has been demanding the special category status for Bihar since 2007 and it often comes to headlines when the elections are near.

Currently, there are a total number of 11 states having this status – Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir (now a Union Territory), Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura and Uttarakhand.

However, Bihar, Odisha and Jharkhand also want to have the same status due to backwardness and poverty.

Bihar CM who broke up ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) last month had made a separate government with the alliance of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). After which, he has been constantly putting efforts to make sure BJP loose in the next Lok Sabha elections.

He, in fact, visited Delhi few days back to bring Opposition parties together to defeat Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP in next polls.
