While speaking in the parliament on Wednesday, PM Modi raised a dozen questions on Congress over its policies. Taking a jibe at Mallikarjun Kharge, the national president of INC, he said that they have blessings of him, recalling Kharge quoting “Abki baar 400 paar” a few days back.

Addressing how “Congress kept following the footprints of the British and never had the spine to carve a path of their own”, Narendra Modi highlighted all the instances when the Congress-led Indian government followed the British laws, symbols, and policies.

On being questioned over providing reservations for the economically weaker section from the general class and not abiding by social equality, PM Modi said that it was not BJP but Congress that never wanted reservations for the downtrodden backward classes. Had Baba Saheb (Dr. BR Ambedkar) not been there, Congress would have kept the SC/ST people deprived of reservations.

Citing a letter written by former PM Jawahar Lal Nehru to all the chief ministers of different states in June 1961, Modi proclaimed that Nehru never wanted reservations for these backward classes. He was always against it and to keep his stern will, he wrote a letter to all the chief ministers in which he wrote, “I don’t want reservation in any form. Especially reservations in jobs. I’m against any such decision that promotes inefficiency and heads us to mediocrity.”

To this PM Modi described as Nehru’s wish to oppose reservations as he believed it would impact quality of work. He added that this is his documented letter and can be accessed to be read.

Pt. Nehru rather wanted to strengthen those groups by providing them with education opportunities and not through reservations in jobs.
