Mizoram: Security Personnel, 28, On Poll Duty Dies Of Cardiac Arrest

Officials stated that Lalrinpuia, who belonged to the second Indian Reserve Battalion, was found dead on Friday morning at the Vangchhia polling station in Champhai district when fellow security personnel tried to rouse him. They indicated that he suffered a cardiac arrest around 4:45 am and subsequently succumbed.

Officials said a 28-year-old security personnel on election duty in Mizoram died from cardiac arrest on Friday.

Officials reported that Lalrinpuia, a member of the second Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn), was discovered dead on Friday morning at the Vangchhia polling station in Champhai district when other security personnel attempted to wake him up. They stated that he experienced cardiac arrest around 4:45 am and passed away.

They sent his body to his native Kawlkulh village in Khawzawl district after conducting an autopsy at Champhai district hospital. Champhai Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer James Lalrinchhana and Champhai Superintendent of Police (SP) Vineet Kumar attended the send-off ceremony.

James extended his condolences to the personnel’s family and informed state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Madhup Vyas about the incident. He mentioned that the family would receive a relief amount applicable to those who die on poll duty promptly.

Kumar also remarked that Lalrinpuia’s untimely death was a significant loss for the state police force. Lalrinpuia, born in April 1996, joined the second Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn) in January 2018.

The elections for the lone Lok Sabha seat in Mizoram took place in the first phase on Friday.
