A 43-year-old man from Palghar district in Maharashtra is alleged to have murdered his live-in partner in response to her rape complaint, said the police on Tuesday. The incident occurred between August 9 and 12, and the body of the 28-year-old victim remains undiscovered.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police, Vasai, Padmaja Bade, the accused residing in Vasai, Palghar, was apprehended on Tuesday. The victim’s family initiated a missing person’s report with the Naigaon police on August 14, suspecting that the accused had disposed of the body in the neighbouring town of Vapi, Gujarat.
A preliminary investigation suggests that the accused’s anger stemmed from the victim’s rape complaint, which had resulted in the registration of a criminal case against him. Reportedly, the woman had declined to retract her complaint, leading to the alleged murder.
