Lok Sabha 2024: Dates Announced For Polls By Election Commission

The Election Commission announced 2024 Lok Sabha elections from April 19 to June 1, with results on June 4. Assembly polls for four states and by-elections for 26 seats also revealed.

The Election Commission of India has announced that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will be held from April 19 to June 1 in seven phases, with results declared on June 4. Consequently, the Model Code of Conduct will now be enforced. Additionally, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar revealed the poll schedule for Assembly elections in four states. This announcement comes as the current Lok Sabha’s term approaches its conclusion on June 16th.

The voting for the first phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will be conducted on April 19, followed by the second phase on April 26, the third phase on May 7, the fourth phase on May 13, the fifth phase on May 20, the sixth phase on May 25, and the seventh phase on June 1.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced the poll schedule for Assembly elections in four states:

  1. Andhra Pradesh will hold elections on May 13.
  2. Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim will conduct elections on April 19.
  3. Odisha will vote in two phases on May 13 and May 20.
  4. Sikkim Voters will cast their votes on April 19, with vote counting scheduled for June 4

By-elections will indeed take place for 26 assembly seats across multiple states, including Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu.

Approximately 96.8 crore people are eligible to cast their votes in the upcoming polls at over 12 lakh polling stations.

Additionally, 18.2 million voters will be casting their votes for the first time. For the Lok Sabha polls in 2024, approximately 10.5 million polling stations, 15 million election-conducting officers, and 5.5 million EVMs are ready for action. In 12 states, the ratio of women voters exceeds that of men voters. Voters who are above 85 years of age have the option to cast their vote from their homes, if they choose to do so.

CEC Rajiv Kumar emphasized the Election Commission’s commitment to combatting fake news by verifying facts and addressing misinformation. He mentioned the launch of a section on their website called “Myths vs Reality,” where the EC will educate voters about the truth behind circulating misinformation.
