Kashmir: The picturesque Kashmir Valley is enduring a severe cold snap, with Srinagar recording its coldest night of the season at a chilling minus 6 degrees Celsius. The frigid temperatures have frozen parts of the iconic Dal Lake, creating a stunning yet stark winter landscape.

According to meteorological officials, the temperature in Srinagar dropped significantly from the previous night’s minus 4.5 degrees Celsius, marking a dramatic shift in the weather. This recent cold wave has been described as one of the harshest experienced this season, with temperatures plunging four degrees below the seasonal average.

The biting cold has not only affected daily life but has also caused several water bodies to freeze over, including sections of the famed Dal Lake. Residents across the valley are grappling with frozen water supply lines, prompting local authorities to issue a yellow cold wave alert that will remain in effect until December 22.

The popular tourist destination of Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 6.8 degrees Celsius, while the renowned ski resort of Gulmarg saw temperatures dip to minus 5 degrees Celsius. Despite the chill, tourists visiting these regions are embracing the winter conditions, with many expressing excitement at witnessing the frozen landscapes. A group of visitors from Ahmedabad told News24 that while they felt the intense cold, they were well-prepared and delighted by the beauty of their surroundings.

As forecasts indicate that temperatures may continue to drop in the coming days, local disaster management teams and administrative officials are on high alert to address any emergencies that may arise due to the severe weather conditions.

With winter firmly settling in, Kashmir’s breathtaking scenery is transformed into a winter wonderland, offering both challenges and unique experiences for residents and visitors alike.
