Weather Update: IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall For Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka

The IMD has predicted very heavy rainfall over South Interior Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu & Lakshadweep for today.

India Meteorological Department on Monday informed that Satellite IR animation from INSAT 3DR has shown convective clouds over south of mainland India.

Convective clouds or cumuliform clouds look like cotton balls and are formed when warm humid air rises through cooler surrounding air in the atmosphere.

There are two types of convection, it is called deep convection if convective clouds reach above 6 km high and if the clouds do not reach high then it’s called shallow convection.

Only deep convection results in thunderstorms and rain showers.

The IMD has also predicted very heavy rainfall over South Interior Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu & Lakshadweep for today.

In its All India warning, from 8th October to 12th October, the IMD has predicted very heavy rainfall in Kerala and heavy rainfall over Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.

As per the IMD data, very heavy rainfall was observed during past 24 hours till 08:30 HRS in Kerala.

The southern part of the mainland is expected to receive heavy rainfall for the next five days.
