IMD Weather Update: Dense Fog Engulfs Punjab, UP; Western Disturbance To Bring Rain And Snowfall To North India

As a result of a cyclonic circulation, light to moderate rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal on January 18. Another fresh Western Disturbance is also likely to affect the Western Himalayan Region from 18th to 20th January.

IMD Weather Update: Dense Fog continues to blanket different regions across India, reducing visibility and affecting daily life. As the winter season intensifies, the northernmost states will likely experience severe dense fog conditions until the next few days, India Meteorological Department said. The affected states include Himachal Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Additionally, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, East Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and West Rajasthan are expected to witness similar conditions during the night and early morning hours till the 18th of January.

Rain/Snow Warning

According to IMD, a fresh western disturbance is expected to bring isolated to scattered rainfall/snowfall over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh on January 16th. Additionally, isolated rainfall activity is also likely to affect northern states such as Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan on the 16th of January.

Cold Day Alert

Cold wave conditions persisted in isolated Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan pockets on January 14th. IMD has predicted cold days ahead, particularly in the northern states.

AQI, Weather Forecast For Delhi

Delhi woke up to ‘very poor’ air quality on Wednesday morning with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 338 at 6 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted isolated rainfall activity over Delhi and its neighboring states on the 15th and 16th of January. There has been a slight decline in minimum temperature in the city during the past 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures over Delhi were recorded in the range of 16 to 18°C and 8 to 9°C, respectively. Meanwhile, the Met Body forecasts a clear sky in the capital on January 17 and partly cloudy weather on January 15 and 16.
