New Delhi: The Congress government in Himachal Pradesh gave a green signal to the new excise policy. The new excise policy for the financial year 2023-24 has been approved in the state cabinet meeting held on Monday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu.
A government spokesperson said that the cabinet approved the auction and tender of retail excise shops in the state for the year 2023-24.
In a statement issued by the Sukhu government, it has been said that the purpose of the new excise policy is to increase the revenue of the state and to reduce the prices of liquor. The Policy also aimed to curb smuggling from neighbouring states.

Five-litre keg draft beer will be retailed
Himachal government has decided to start the retail sale of draft beer in five-litre kegs. This will offer different varieties of beer to the customers.
Bottling of imported wine is approved
The state cabinet decided to allow Bottling of imported wines. This will enable best-selling high-range wine brands to be available at liquor stores.
New varieties of fruit liquor
It has also been ascertained to introduce new varieties of fruit spirits or liquor made from its distillation and blending. The government said that this will strengthen the financial condition of the gardeners.
Minibars will open in hotels
It has been decided to allow the minibar to L-3, L-4, and L-5 license holders for occupants of 3-star rated and above hotels, it will promote tourism in the state.
