Akhilesh hint to filed candidate from Amethi

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday indicated that his party could field a candidate from the Amethi constituency in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha election.

The Samajwadi Party had not fielded candidates from Amethi and Raebareli seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha election to support Congress’s two top leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi.

Akhilesh visited Amethi on Sunday to attend the wedding ceremony of former UP minister Gayatri Prajapati’s daughter, indicated to give the candidate via a tweet.

“I was deeply saddened to see the plight of poor women in Amethi. VIPs have always won and lost here, yet the condition is like this here, so what to say about the rest of the state? Next time Amethi will not elect big people but people with big hearts. SP takes a pledge to eradicate poverty of Amethi,” Akhilesh Yadav tweeted along with photos of local women.

The Amethi Parliament seat has been a Congress stronghold for decades but Congress lost it to BJP’s Smriti Irani in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.

Addressing people, Mr Yadav also hit out at BJP. Without taking Union Minister Irani’s name, he urged people to defeat her in the 2024 Lok Sabha election.

“The ‘Cylinder waali’ is the MP from here. Definitely defeat her,” he said.
