New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested a Superintendent of Central Goods and Service Tax (Audit) posted at Audit Circle-VI, Gandhidham (Gujarat) in an alleged bribery case, the probe agency said on Thursday.
A case was registered against Superintendent on the allegations of demanding undue advantage of Rs.2.40 Lakh [demand of Rs.100/-per container) from the complainant for the containers he cleared during his earlier posting as Superintendent, Customs, Kandla Port, a statement said.
It was further alleged that the accused told the Complainant to pay the said amount so as to save him from the audit which he threatened to conduct, if the undue advantage was not paid.
CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red handed while demanding & accepting bribe Rs 1 lakh from the complainant. Searches were conducted at the office & residential premises of the accused which led to recovery of Rs.6.50 lakh and incriminating documents from his residential premises, it added.
