New Delhi: Union Law Minister Kiran Rijiju on Monday said The government will bring a bill to repeal 65 obsolete laws and other such provisions in the Parliament session beginning from March 13. 

Addressing the 23rd Commonwealth Law Conference in Goa, the minister said that there are more than 4.98 crore cases pending in various courts in India. The ultimate goal of the government is to resolve pending cases using technology or with a “paperless judiciary”.

1,486 old laws were abolished

The Law Minister during his speech said that the government believes that laws are for the people. If laws become a hindrance in the path of justice to people’s lives, then such provisions should be repealed. In the last eight and a half years, our government have removed 1,486 obsolete and unnecessary laws.

Budget session will resume on March 13

 “The ongoing budget session will resume on March 13, during the session I am going to bring a bill to remove other 65 laws and other provisions that have been out of operation,” Rijiju said.

Union law minister said that the government wants to reduce the pendency of cases.
