Fresh violence erupts in Manipur

Guwahati: In a fresh violence, a total of three people including a father son duo were killed in Manipur’s Bishnupur district, earlier this morning. At around 2 am, suspected militants raided Ukha Tampak village near Kwakta in Bishnupur and started firing indiscriminately, as per the police sources said.

Out of three people who were murdered, two men – father and son, and another person at the adjoining house were unarmed villagers guarding their houses.

On Saturday, police informed that three people were murdered while they were sleeping in their houses and later slashed with swords. The attackers who killed three people hails from Churachandpur.

The police sources further added that this incident is great concerned as the attackers managed to get through the buffer zone – between hills and valleys were central security forces were manned.

Hitting out at the central security forces, Manipur BJP MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh alleged that there were huge security lapses on part of the central security forces following which only the Bishnupur district witnessed militant attack in which three innocent people lost their lives.

Singh also demanded strict action against the paramilitary force personnel for their “negligence in duty”.

Singh has called for the suspension of the so-called paramilitary forces currently deployed in the village. They have been actively communicating their concerns through letters and memorandums to the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, highlighting that certain units of the security forces are causing uneasiness and tensions between the people and the state.

Singh, who is also the son-in-law of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, emphasizes that it is imperative to address and rectify the issues arising from these specific units of the security forces.
