Indian Railways serves millions and millions of passengers every day. However, a lot of passengers miss their trains because of fog or other issues. They re-board with a fresh ticket in such a case. However, did you know that you may still use the same ticket and go anywhere even after two days without having to pay for it?
It is indeed possible, as per Indian Railways policy, to modify the date of travel without having to pay any fees; additionally, you can continue to travel on the same ticket even after two days. There are certain key guidelines to follow while doing this.

How to travel on the same ticket when you miss the train?
As per Indian Railways, “The period of break journey that can be availed at a station will be up to a maximum of 2 days only excluding the day of arrival and day of departure”. And, “Break journey on single journey tickets over suburban sections of Indian Railways will not be permitted.”
What can be done in case you miss the train?
You must speak with the ticket collector to continue your journey. He’ll have the next ticket ready and hand it over to you. You can board your train after two stations if you miss it. TT won’t offer your spot to anyone else till then.
Can you take a break on the train journey?
Very few individuals are aware of this regulation. You can stop for a break if you are travelling more than 500 km. You can stop twice if the trip is more than 1000 kilometers long.
According to the Indian Railways “ Holders of single journey tickets for distance of more than 500 kms (actual distance) are allowed to break journey at any station enroute. “
“The first break journey shall not, however, be made until a distance of 500 kms has been travelled from starting station. Only one break-journey will be permitted on tickets upto 1000 kms and maximum two break journeys will be allowed on tickets of longer distances.”
You are allowed to take a two-day respite from travel, excluding the day you board and disembark. Luxury trains such as Shatabdi, Jan Shatabdi, and Rajdhani are exempt from this requirement.
