Dhani Ram Mittal engaged in several capers throughout his decades-long career in crime, including posing as a judge to grant bail to undertrials and stealing fancy cars for personal use.

Police reported that Dhani Ram Mittal, aged 85, passed away on Thursday due to health issues. Authorities had incarcerated Mittal over 90 times during his lifetime for his involvement in more than 150 theft cases across Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, and Rajasthan.
A senior police officer, who chose to remain anonymous, stated that Dhani Ram Mittal had a lengthy criminal record, directly involved in over 1,000 cases of theft, cheating, impersonation, and forgery throughout his life. Mittal’s criminal activities began in 1964 with a case of cheating, and he continued committing crimes thereafter.
Recalling Mittal’s activities, a senior Delhi police officer mentioned that Mittal stole cars from the Jhajjar court parking lot in Haryana for personal use. The officer also noted that Mittal once posed as a judge in Jhajjar, issuing orders to release criminals serving long sentences.
Mittal, who was well-educated with a BSc degree from Rohtak and later an LLB from Rajasthan, worked as a clerk for various advocates after his studies. Despite his education, Mittal indulged in car thefts for personal enjoyment, forged documents, and even secured a job as a station master from 1968 to 1974.
In 2016, at the age of 77, authorities arrested Mittal for stealing a car in Rani Bagh. This arrest marked his 95th encounter with law enforcement before his recent passing due to illness and subsequent cardiac arrest.
