New Delhi: The Kerala High Court Monday witnessed empty courtrooms owing to a protest by the Kollam Bar Association. The lawyers have staged a demonstration against the manhandling of a lawyer by police personnel.
Excluding few judges and court officers, all the lawyers practicing before the High Court and the District Courts in Ernakulam stood in solidarity with the victim by staging a protest.
In an official notification, the Kerala High Court Advocates’ Association (KHCAA) implied that the state government has not taken note of their compliant. As a result of which, the lawyers will boycott their duties for Tuesday.

The issue started with the alleged violence against Advocate P Jayakumar in a case related to a road accident. He accused police personnel to assault him during his custody.
After the incident, several lawyers protested in the District Court at Kollam premises. However, the protest ended up in a clash between agitated lawyers and police personnel.
Since then, several protests have taken place demanding justice of the victim lawyer. Members of Kollam Bar Association have been asking for a stringent action against the accused police personnel.
