Delhi-NCR Swelters Under Heatwave, Rain May Bring Relief Soon

The heatwave makes it feel like the body is being pricked by thorns, and they are bothersome both in the morning and evening. On Thursday, the temperature in Delhi reached 46.2 degrees Celsius. There is a chance of rain in Delhi today, which might bring some relief.

The entire country, including Delhi-NCR, is experiencing a severe heatwave. By 9 in the morning, it already feels as hot as it usually does at noon. This intense heat particularly affects those who have to go out for work. The heatwaves make it feel like the body is being pricked by thorns, and they are bothersome both in the morning and evening. On Thursday, the temperature in Delhi reached 46.2 degrees Celsius. There is a chance of rain in Delhi today, which might bring some relief.

The Meteorological Department reports that Delhi’s sky will be cloudy today, with a chance of light rain and thunder in some areas. This could bring the temperature down to around 40 degrees. On Thursday, many districts in Haryana, including Rohtak, Hisar, and Narnaul, saw maximum temperature around 45 degrees. Una in Himachal recorded 44.2 degrees, and Hamirpur recorded 45.2 degrees. Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, reached 42.4 degrees. Bhatinda in Punjab hit 47 degrees, and several districts, including Amritsar, saw temperature around 45 degrees. In Delhi, the maximum temperature was 46.3 degrees in the Ridge area, 46.4 degrees in Ayanagar, and around 45 degrees in Palam and Safdarjung.

Kanpur and Prayagraj in UP recorded a maximum temperature of 46.6 degrees. Varanasi, Hamirpur, and Agra also had temperature above 45 degrees. In most northern areas of Rajasthan, temperature was around 45 degrees. Gaya in Bihar saw temperature exceed to 45 degrees. Buxar was the hottest city in the country, with a maximum temperature of 47.2 degrees.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has provided a major update on the rain. The monsoon, which had been slow, has now reached most areas of Maharashtra. In the next three to four days, it is expected to arrive in Odisha, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and the North West Bay of Bengal. An official mentioned that the South-East monsoon has weakened, delaying its progress. As a result, the country is currently waiting for the rain brought by the monsoon from the Arabian Sea.

The Meteorological Department expects the monsoon to reach Delhi, UP, Bihar, and other areas in the next 8-10 days. In the meantime, North India may experience high temperature and heatwaves. On Friday, a heatwave is likely in many parts of Uttar Pradesh and some parts of Jharkhand. Additionally, heat waves are expected in Jammu division, parts of Himachal Pradesh, and isolated areas in Punjab, West Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, and Bihar.
