Crime News: In a shocking revelation, a couple had allegedly sold his 8-month-old baby for Rs 2 lakh to buy smartphone. The incident is reported from West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district.

The police have arrested a couple for allegedly selling their eight-month-old infant.

The incident came into light when a local resident who resides in their locality reported the matter to the police. He got suspicious after they found the couple having a brand new phone and baby is not seen.

The couple, identified as Jaydev Ghosh and Sathi, are now in police custody and the baby has been rescued, police informed.

According to nearby residents, the couple, who also have a daughter, travelled across the state and visited many places, including Digha and Mandarmani sea beaches for their honeymoon.

The incident was occurred almost a month ago but it came into light on Sunday (July 24).

According to witnesses, “Jaydev Ghosh and Sathi sold their baby for Rs 2 lakh. Later, they visited many places, like Digha sea beach for their honeymoon with the money. They even bought a mobile phone.”

The witness even alleged that Sathi would bring other people to her house, saying that the couple sold the baby for buying opium and ganja.

Police have also arrested the woman, Priyanka Ghosh, to whom the couple allegedly sold their infant. Priyanka was arrested under the Khardah police station but her complete details is yet to be identified.

Jaydev’s father, Kamai Chowdhury, said, “I was told that the baby had been sent to his maternal uncle’s house. Later, I came to know that the baby had been sold off. I can’t say why and to whom the baby was sold. I came to know after selling the baby, my son and his wife went to Digha, Mandarmani sea beaches. They also visited Tarapeeth Kali temple.”

Kamai Chowdhury also accused his son and daughter-in-law of assaulting him mentally and physically and a complaint has been filed.
