The daughter of a Rajya Sabha MP struck a man sleeping on a footpath with her BMW in Chennai on Monday night. The man succumbed to his injuries shortly after the incident, while the woman was granted bail.
This new high-profile hit-and-run case follows closely on the heels of the Pune Porsche accident. In the previous incident, which occurred around 2:30 am on May 19 at Pune’s Kalyani Nagar junction, two 24-year-old techies from Madhya Pradesh lost their lives. They were struck by a speeding car allegedly driven by an intoxicated 17-and-a-half-year-old boy.
According to a report, Madhuri, daughter of YSR Congress Party Rajya Sabha MP Beeda Masthan Rao, was driving a BMW with a female friend when she ran over Surya, a 24-year-old painter who was sleeping on the footpath in Chennai’s Besant Nagar while intoxicated.
Officials reported that Madhuri fled the scene almost immediately, while her friend remained and argued with the bystanders who had gathered after the accident. She eventually left the spot. Some people rushed Surya to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.

Reports indicate that Surya had been married for only eight months. Relatives and local residents gathered at the J-5 Shastri Nagar Police Station, demanding action.
After reviewing the CCTV footage, the police identified the car involved as belonging to the BMR (Beeda Masthan Rao) Group and registered in Puducherry. Madhuri was arrested but granted bail at the police station. Rao, who became a Rajya Sabha MP in 2022 and has also served as an MLA, is associated with the BMR Group, a leading name in the seafood industry.
