Mauni Amavasya 2025: India is a land of vibrant culture and diverse traditions. There are several auspicious days in the Hindu calendar that are known for their spiritual significance and are widely celebrated. One such day is Mauni Amavasya, also called as Maghi Amavasya. The day falls on the new moon day during the month of Magha. The word ‘Mauni’ comes from ‘mauna,’ which means silence, and ‘Amavasya’ refers to the new moon day. As per tradition, people observe fast on this day and take a vow of silence. They engage in meditation believing that Mauni Amavasya helps in spiritual cleansing, self-reflection, and removing past sins. Devotees visit temples, take holy dip, and offer prayers.
This year’s Mauni Amavasya holds special significance as it coincides with Maha Kumbh 2025 Celebrations. It will be observed on Wednesday, January 29, this year.
