CBI Raids Mahua Moitra’s Residence In Cash-For-Query Case

The premier investigation agency has initiated these actions in connection with an alleged cash-for-query scandal, which reportedly led to Mahua Moitra losing her Lok Sabha membership.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is conducting searches at multiple locations in Kolkata connected to former Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra as part of the cash-for-query case. This move follows the recent registration of an FIR against Mahua Moitra by the central agency. The FIR was lodged following the directives of the Lokpal, which had received a report from the CBI’s preliminary inquiry into allegations made against Moitra by BJP Lok Sabha member Nishikant Dubey.

Nishikant Dubey had made allegations that the Trinamool Congress leader, Mahua Moitra, allegedly solicited cash and gifts from Dubai-based businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for asking questions in the Lok Sabha. These questions were purportedly aimed at targeting industrialist Gautam Adani and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Mahua Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha last year due to allegations of “unethical conduct.” Subsequently, she challenged her expulsion in the Supreme Court. Despite these challenges, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has nominated her again from the Krishnanagar constituency for the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
