CBI arrests WAPCOS chairman, son in corruption case

New Delhi: The CBI on Wednesday arrested former Chairman and Managing Director of WAPCOS Rajinder Kumar Gupta and his son on charges of having disproportionate assets. After conducting raids at 19 places in Delhi, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Sonepat, and Ghaziabad, CBI has recovered Rs 38.8 crore, a huge quantity of jewelry, some high-cost articles, and other suspicious documents.

Rajinder Kumar Gupta was recently booked for amassing disproportionate assets. A case has also been registered against him, his wife Reema Singal, his son Gaurav Singal and his daughter-in-law Komal Singal.

A CBI spokesperson on Wednesday said that in the searches so far Rs 38.38 crore (approx) in cash, FDRs, bank locker keys and details of accounts in several banks have been recovered.

Gupta has been declared to have disproportionate assets during his tenure from April 1, 2011, to March 31, 2019. It is also alleged that he had started a consultant business in the name of a private company in Delhi after his retirement.

Property received in the name of relatives

After the case was registered, a CBI team searched all their premises and recovered 20 crore rupees and documents related to the properties and other valuables assets. A per CBI out of Rs 20 crore, around Rs 10 crore was recovered from the properties of Gupta and his relatives in Chandigarh.

WAPCOS, formerly known as Water and Power Consultancy Services (India) Limited, is a Central Public Sector Enterprise wholly owned by the Government under the control of the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti.
