Two individuals jumped into the Lok Sabha from the visitors’ gallery on Wednesday, creating a major security breach on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack. Members of parliament and security personnel apprehended the pair and turned them over to the Delhi Police, who are currently conducting an interrogation. Limited information is available about the individuals and their motives. Here’s what MPs who witnessed the commotion had to say about them.

BSP MP Ram Shiromani Verma revealed that security personnel discovered an Aadhaar card with a Lucknow address on one of the two intruders. Describing the incident, he mentioned that the entire parliament was filled with smoke when one of the men opened a canister emitting yellow smoke. “All MPs beat him up and caught him and handed him to the security,” he said.

He also added that they were raising the “tanashahi nahi chalegi” (down with dictatorship) slogan. He further added that the man had stuffed the canister and a paper inside his shoes.

MP Hanuman Beniwal said that he was among the first one to catch hold of them. “When we caught hold of one of them, he took out something from his shoe, emanating smoke. Later the second person was also caught,” he said.
