Addressing a public rally in Bastar, Vadra said, “You were made ‘nirbhar’, not ‘aatmanirbhar’. You were not provided schemes that would have made you self-reliant. You were made dependent on the Govt. BJP Govt shattered your self-confidence. You were overlooked. In these 5 years, Congress has restored your pride.”

“For 15 years before this, you saw BJP’s rule. You trusted them. But they did not uphold your trust. There was fear, hunger and massive corruption here. Your land was snatched away. You were handcuffed. There was scam after scam,” added Vadra.

The senior Congress leader reached Chhattisgarh to launch government’s scheme for tribal communities in Bastar where she was accompanied by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.

Vadra asserted that the Bhupesh Baghel-led state government helped Bastar, which is known earlier for Naxalite violence, transformed into a brand for arts and other products.

She said there was an era when people used to be afraid to come down to Bastar due to violence and fear but that same Bastar has been recognised internationally as well. She said the current state dispensation helped fostering sale in foreign of regional handicraft products.

“My grandmother Indira ji used to say that the best culture is the tribal one and she respected the most that you respect nature and never destroy it. You make sure to keep the nature intact while earning your living,” added Vadra.
